ZIGBEE, A SUITABLE BASE FOR EMBEDDED WIRELESS DEVELOPMENT? Master’s Thesis

Teleca Systems AB has received several requests to develop wireless applications in areas where there are no suitable standardized solutions. They wish to examine if ZigBee, a new wireless industrial standard can be the answer to the demand for such networks. ZigBee is interesting since it is the first attempt to standardize low power, low data rate networks. The main objective of this Master’s thesis project is to evaluate if ZigBee is a suitable base for embedded wireless communication. This examination is done by building a ZigBee application and analyzing the development process and the application itself. The thesis also covers a summary of the ZigBee standard, including areas ZigBee is likely to be used in. Additionally it contains recommendation regarding issues that should be considered before developing a ZigBee application. Ultimately this Master’s thesis concludes that: yes, ZigBee is a suitable base for embedded wireless development.
